Zephyr Sofware awarded a DARPA SBIR Phase II "ESP: Embedded System Protection" in response to topic number SB131-003. The project is developing technology to protect embedded systems against various classes of remote exploitation including:

  • Malicious calls to critical system or library functions,
  • Overwriting return addresses on the stack to hijack program execution,
  • Numeric errors that can affect access to critical data,
  • Overwriting of memory that should be read-only after deployment, e.g. configuration parameters, operating system parameters, or application code.

Contract Period: 16-June-2014 through 16-September-2016
Contract Amount: $785,543

23–May–2014

Zephyr Software awarded an Office of Naval Research SBIR Phase II "Preventing Program Hijacking via Static and Dynamic Analyses" in response to topic number OSD11-IA5. The project is developing novel technology to prevent program hijacking. The technology has the following properties:

  • Prevention of hijacking with no delay in detection and no system damage,
  • Operation on arbitrary binaries (i.e., source code is not required),
  • Option to "fight through the attack" thereby preventing DOS attacks,
  • Low run-time overhead, and
  • Customizable on a per-application basis.

Contract Period: 23-May-2014 through 22-May-2016
Contract Amount: $863,602
